Government of Canada launches new funding to create jobs and boost resiliency
The Jobs and Growth Fund provides funding to businesses and organizations to help create jobs and position local economies for long-term growth. The fund, delivered by Canada’s regional development agencies (RDAs), provides $700 million nationally over three years, which includes up to $70 million dedicated to businesses created after January 2020 that meet eligibility criteria. In southern Ontario, FedDev Ontario is investing $224 million to help job creators and the organizations that support them to future-proof their businesses, build resiliency and prepare for growth by transitioning to a green economy, fostering an inclusive recovery, enhancing competitiveness, and creating jobs in every corner of the country. Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan has helped to protect millions of jobs, provide emergency support to families and keep businesses afloat as they deal with the impact of COVID-19. A central part of this is the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF), which helps support those who may not be eligible for other programs. An update on the RRRF at work in Huron County – A major injection of investment capital, business services and operational funding through the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund has allowed CF Huron to respond quickly to the economic challenges posed by COVID-19. To date, over $1.5 million in COVID-relief loans have been disbursed to Huron County businesses, maintaining 75 enterprises and 242 jobs in the local economy. Additionally, $567,000 in business services funding has been committed, allowing 130 SMEs and social enterprises to access expert advice and business coaching to carry them through the pandemic. County of Huron SLED Fund opens for 2021 applications
FROM HURON COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – The County of Huron’s annual SLED (Supporting Local Economic Development) program opens on February 8, 2021, providing an opportunity for municipalities and registered non-profits to receive funding for projects which target key regional economic development priorities in COVID-19 recovery, workforce attraction, agriculture, tourism, or investment attraction. Successful projects will be provided up to $10,000 through the SLED fund and must be completed by March 31, 2022. Ontario Small Business Support Grant Starting at $10,000 for all eligible businesses, the grant provides businesses with funding to a maximum of $20,000 to help cover decreased revenue expected as a result of the Provincewide Shutdown. The business must demonstrate they experienced a revenue decline of at least 20 per cent when comparing monthly revenue in April 2019 and April 2020. NEWS RELEASE – The Ontario government has opened applications for the new Ontario Small Business Support Grant. The grant, first announced in December, provides a minimum of $10,000 to a maximum of $20,000 to eligible small businesses who have had to restrict their operations due to the Provincewide Shutdown.
